About the wine:
The grape variety Agiorgitiko ([aʝɔrˈʝitikɔ], Greek Αγιωργίτικο), which is also called St. George's vine or Mavro Nemea, is one of the oldest red wine grape varieties in the world. This grape variety is said to have been cultivated already in Greek antiquity. Agiorgitiko is late maturing and due to its colour intensity these wines are nicknamed Hercules Blood.
The wine - Agiorgitiko SOL ROUGE PGI Kavala - is accordingly very colour-intensive and is characterised by velvety tannins and aromas of cherries and currants. Also here, red fruits such as sour cherries and cassis dominate the nose. The palate is juicy and punchy with a hint of cedar and ripe blackberries. The tannins are soft and smooth. At 14.3 VOL%, the wine is very powerful and full of flavour.
About the winemakers
The organic / Demeter winery Apostolidi from Greece is a second generation family business. Efthymis Apostolidis studied oenology in Germany and also gained important experience there with top producers such as Aldinger (multi-award winning winery from Fellbach). After his return, he and his sister Vasiliki took over the family's organic winery. With a lot of willingness to innovate, the siblings managed the transformation from organic to biodynamic cultivation and have been creating top wines with their own signature ever since.
The extraordinary organic vineyard, which stretches across the western bank of the Nestos River, is now farmed 100% biodynamically. Harnessing the power of the environment, biodiversity and biodynamic preparations, such as handmade teas and herbal solutions, are now part of the Apostolidis family's daily routine.
